Director

Dr. Jyotsna Jha

Jyotsna has been director of CBPS since January 2011. She has a PhD in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Her research primarily focuses on education and gender. Before her association with CBPS, she worked as an advisor of Education at the Commonwealth Secretariat, London, for five years. She has actively worked with educational policy planners, administrators, teachers and professionals at various levels both nationally and internationally.

 Senior Research Advisors

Dr. Niveditha Menon

Niveditha has been working with CBPS since April 2015. She has a PhD in Sociology and Demography, with a minor in Women’s Studies from Pennsylvania State University. Prior to CBPS, she was working with International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Bangalore. At CBPS, she primarily works in gender related projects.

 

Research Advisors

Dr. Padmaja Pancharatnam

 

Padmaja joined CBPS in December 2014, right after her Masters and PhD in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University. She also has a Masters in Econometrics from Madras University. At CBPS, her work involves education assessment, gender, and agriculture-related projects. 

 

Dr. Maithreyi R

Maithreyi has recently completed her doctoral work at the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bangalore, in the interdisciplinary area of childhood studies. She has a Masters in Psychology from Bangalore University, and is a practicing child psychologist. She joined CBPS in July 2015 and her work focuses on gender and education.

 

 

 

Dr. Priyanka Dutta

Priyanka joined CBPS in September 2016. She has recently finished her doctoral dissertation in Sociology from the Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Bangalore. She has also completed a M. Phil in Development Studies with specialisation in Sociology from the Institute of Development Studies Kolkata (IDSK). Prior to CBPS, she has worked with various organizations like IDSK, CUTS-International and Bhoruka Public Welfare Trust. At CBPS, she primarily works on gender and education related projects.

 

Lokesh                                                                                                                                                           lokesh

Lokesh joined CBPS in August 2016. She is based in Bihar and works primarily as an ethnographer for the qualitative study in Bihar. She has an M.Phil from the Department of Sociology, University of Delhi. She has worked in a variety of research positions, and is actively engaged with issues of migration, gender, labour, urbanism, violence, and sexuality.

 

Shreekanth Mahendiran 

Shreekanth has a Masters in Economics from Madras School of Economics, Anna University. Before joining CBPS, he worked as a business analyst at Hewlett Packard (Bangalore) and as a Research Assistant in Centre for Public Policy, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore. He joined CBPS in November 2011 and works primarily on education-related projects.

Neha Ghatak

Neha has a Masters in Sociology from Delhi School of Economics. She joined CBPS in July 2011. Her work primarily focuses on education and gender related projects. She has also interned with the Centre of Excellence in Urban Governance, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore and Central Coal Fields Limited, Ranchi.

 

Research Assistants:

Anita G Goudar

Anita joined CBPS in January 2016. She is based in Haveri, and primarily works as an ethnographer in the qualitative study based in Karnataka. She has completed her Masters’ in Social Work from Karnataka University, Dharwad. Prior to joining CBPS, she has had field experience in ICDS (Rural), and has worked for the CSR wing of Spicer India Pvt Ltd, Jodaalli in Dharwad. She also worked in Client Exit Interview in FPAI, Dharwad.

 

Bhavani Seetharamanbhavani-seetharaman

Bhavani Seetharaman joined CBPS after graduating with a Masters in Public Policy from National Law School of India University (NLSU), Bangalore. For her Master’s thesis, she looked at the effect of testing policies on different social groups in Telangana and Virginia. She has previously worked with Bangalore Political Action Committee (B.PAC) as a policy analyst.
