CBPS will be organizing a
panel discussion on
‘Examining the Process and Impact of Mahila Samakhya on Women Empowerment’ at the
Eleventh International Conference on Public Policy and Management, hosted by the
Centre for Public Policy at the
Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (
http://www.iimb.ernet.in/xi-aicppm-home) on
9 August 2016. The
team will present preliminary findings from their study on the impact of
Mahila Samakhya (MS) in Karnataka and Bihar, using a mixed-methods approach.
Three papers will be presented during the panel discussion:
The first paper is being presented by Pragya Bhuwania, Arnab Mukherji and Hema Swaminathan, Centre for Public Policy, IIMB and is titled ‘A pathway to improve education outcomes and delay age at marriage’.
The second and third papers are being presented by the CBPS team. The second paper is titled ‘Impact of MS over three decades: Quantitative assessment of economic and political empowerment of women in three districts in Bihar’. This a cross section study.
The third paper is ‘Collectivising women: Case studies illustrating the empowerment process in one district in Karnataka’.
