Niveditha Menon will be speaking at The Alternative Law Forum, Bangalore on Stories of Empowerment: The Mahila Samakhya Experience on 20 May 2016 at 6 p.m. Started in 1986, the Mahila Samakhya (MS) programme mobilises vulnerable women at the grassroots level, using a collective action approach to help women become empowered agents of society. It started with the premise that if women are given the space to articulate   their experiences, they will be able to recognise, address, and break the vicious cycle of isolation, violence and marginalisation. Today, it is considered to be one of the world’s largest government-funded women’s empowerment programme serving around 1.2 million women across 10 Indian states. The research has not been completed but our experience has been profound. Drawing from our experiences, she will be sharing some stories, anecdotes, and memories of MS.
