This project studies the impact of the Mahila Samakhya (MS) programme on economic empowerment of women. The larger aim of the project is to examine the barriers to economic empowerment for women in rural India and the process and manner in which collective action-based programmes, such as MS, can address these barriers. The study is located in two states, Karnataka and Bihar, and uses a combination of both quantitative and qualitative methods, namely, Randomised Control Trials (RCTs) and ethnography.
